Since 2011 the cooperation between one of the largest electricity suppliers in the Balkans, EVN and manufacturer of smart meters, ADD Grup, continues to evolve.
ADD Bulgaria, our strategic partner for the promotion and implementation of modern energy metering systems in the Balkans, has recently announced the contract for the supply of 50 000 ADDAX smart electricity meters to Northern Macedonia. This important step confirms the high quality and reliability of ADD Grup products and shows the confidence of the international community in the technological solutions in the field of energy efficiency “made in Moldova”.
ADDAX electricity meters to be delivered in the next three years to market of North Macedonian, use the same reliable and tested communication solutions, based on PLC technologies, as previously used in this country.
It is important to note that ADD Grup has already deployed several successful smart metering projects in Northern Macedonia. In 2014, for example, a trial batch of 18 000 meters was announced to be delivered and installed, and in 2016, another 35 000 meters.
The tender for the delivery of 50,000 meters, which was won in 2023, is the largest in the history of cooperation between EVN Macedonia and ADD Grup.
“This success is another step in our quest to expand into international markets,” says an ADD Bulgaria representative. “We are pleased to be able to offer advanced energy metering technology to EVN Macedonia and are confident that our solutions will make a significant contribution to improving the country’s energy efficiency.”
According to market experts, the installation of 50 000 new meters will play a key role in upgrading North Macedonia’s energy infrastructure, ensuring greater efficiency and transparency in the country’s energy consumption.
Under the terms of the tender the first batch of ADDAX smart meters was delivered to local electricity supplier EVN Macedonia this spring and supply of the next batches of meters will follow.

For many years ADD Bulgaria is integrating and supporting ADDAX system, which is a solution for advanced metering infrastructure (AMI). During this time, more than 1.5 million smart meters have been installed in Bulgaria and Northern Macedonia, which successfully help fight against electricity losses and theft. So, if the share of electricity theft in Macedonia in 2011 was 18.4%, by 2015, after the first projects with ADD Grup, this figure has dropped to 14.9%.
