The water supply sector faces growing challenges: climate change, population growth, aging infrastructure, and increasing energy consumption. According to the United Nations, by 2030 the global freshwater deficit could exceed 40%, and by mid-century up to 5 billion people may lack reliable water supply. Rising energy demands by 2035—nearly a third more—further strain water resources.
The World Bank reports that about 32 billion cubic meters of water are lost annually worldwide due to leaks and unauthorized connections. In India, for example, the city of Hyderabad has implemented smart metering and automatic water supply control systems to combat water loss, significantly reducing losses and improving supply efficiency.
ADD GRUP introduces the new ADDRA water meter with a valve, which takes water consumption monitoring to a new level. The meter provides ultra-precise flow registration with a minimum starting flow of just 1 liter per hour and allows flow restriction thanks to the built-in valve. The owner can control consumption and pay for water via smartphone, making usage convenient. The system sends notifications about potential leaks, low battery level, tampering attempts, valve closure, or backflow, allowing timely responses to any incidents.
Modern technologies like ADDRA with a valve are integrated with SmartHome and IoT digital platforms, enabling remote monitoring and control. This helps reduce operating costs, prevent water loss, and promotes efficient use of water resources.
Experts note that achieving sustainable development goals in water supply requires annual investments of USD 131–140 billion, nearly twice current government spending. Technologies such as ADDRA make it possible to use those investments most effectively, ensuring reliability and control at every stage.
The water supply sector is adapting to modern challenges by adopting digital technologies and intelligent control systems. The smart ADDRA water meter with a valve demonstrates how innovations make water consumption conscious, paving the way toward a future without water shortages.
