In 2026, water scarcity has become a problem not only in certain regions but is also becoming a serious problem across Europe. Rising temperatures, prolonged droughts and inefficient water management are increasing the pressure on freshwater resources. Addressing this problem requires more than just reducing consumption.
According to Euronews, drought affected 38% of Europe’s territory in the summer of 2026. The European Commission also estimates that around 30% of Europeans face water scarcity every year.
These figures highlight the growing need for more rational use of available water resources.
Reducing consumption is only part of the solution. Water is also lost due to leaks and pipe bursts in consumers’ homes.
Timely leak detection and a rapid response are crucial to reducing water losses. Monitoring water consumption helps detect unusual changes in usage, while remote flow control technologies make it possible to shut off the water supply promptly when necessary.
ADDRA smart water solutions provide consumption data, while flow control technologies offer additional opportunities for managing water supply. ADDRA solutions combine these capabilities in two options: smart water meters with an integrated valve and separate valves.
Depending on the configuration, these solutions make it possible to remotely shut off the water supply, set consumption limits and manage water prepayment. Combined with consumption monitoring, they help water utilities, management companies and other users respond more effectively to water supply problems.
Smart technologies alone cannot solve the problem of water scarcity, but they provide practical tools for improving control over water consumption and distribution.
Find out how ADDRA technologies help detect potential leaks, remotely shut off the water supply, and reduce the risk of water losses and damage caused by leaks.
