On October 28, 2025, ADD GRUP held a webinar entitled Technologies Shaping the Future of Water Supply, whose main theme was technologies defining the future of water supply.
The webinar gathered more than 100 participants from different countries and sectors of the water industry. During the event, key challenges shaping the development of smart water metering were discussed, as well as technologies that make water supply systems more efficient, reliable, and sustainable.
At the beginning of the webinar, Ruslan Casico, Head of Sales and Marketing, presented the main problems faced by the water supply industry and emphasized the importance of finding technological solutions.
“We want to share our ideas and vision, as well as receive feedback on how to improve the water supply industry, making it more efficient and friendly to the environment and society,” he noted.
The presentation started with a brief introduction to the company. ADD GRUP is a well-known brand in the field of intelligent metering systems, currently operating in 38 countries and approaching 9 million installed meters worldwide. Throughout its history, the company has focused on the design and manufacturing of smart metering solutions, directing its resources and expertise towards creating high-quality equipment for accurate measurement and efficient management of electricity and water consumption.
The main focus of the webinar was on three key issues that have a significant impact on the modern water industry: water scarcity, meter autonomy, and connectivity.
Water scarcity was identified as one of the most acute global problems. Studies show that only about half of the world’s population currently has access to clean water, and forecasts indicate a further deterioration of the situation by 2050. Both climatic and human factors influence this trend. While it is extremely difficult to change climate patterns, changing our attitude towards water use is entirely possible. Smart water metering technologies play a key role in this process, providing tools that help people consciously manage their consumption.
Another important topic was meter autonomy and battery life. In recent years, utility companies’ requirements for metering devices have increased significantly. If previously the standard warranty was two years, today meters are expected to last 10-13 years, including a separate battery warranty. However, real-world operating conditions extreme temperatures, weak network coverage, frequent data requests, or long storage before installation may affect battery performance regardless of production quality. This raises the question of how to balance technical limitations, customer expectations, and operational costs.
The third key issue was connectivity. Without a stable data transmission channel, even the most advanced meter loses its value. Utilities invest considerable resources in communication technologies – M-Bus, LoRaWAN, NB-IoT, or Mioty yet none can provide perfect coverage under all installation conditions. In practice, many companies still face weak-signal areas and must use drive-by or walk-by data collection, which reduces the benefits of intelligent metering systems.
In the final part of the webinar, Maxim Granatiri, Head of the R&D Team at ADD GRUP, presented solutions developed by the company to overcome these challenges. He spoke about ADDRA a new generation of smart water meters capable of addressing water scarcity issues, ensuring long-term autonomous operation, and providing flexible connectivity.
ADDRA combines high-precision ultrasonic measurement technology, multi-standard communication capability, and extended battery life, offering a reliable and environmentally friendly solution for modern water supply systems.
During the webinar, participants actively asked questions, which the speakers answered live, making the discussion especially engaging and interactive.
The event demonstrated that innovation in the field of water metering is not only about technology but also about cooperation and understanding real market needs.
By maintaining ongoing dialogue with utilities, partners, and clients, ADD GRUP continues to develop solutions that promote the rational use of water, environmental protection, and the creation of smarter and more sustainable communities.
