AS "Sadales tīkls" satisfied with ADDAX pilot proceeds with rollout of up to 100 000 ADDAX meters

AS "Sadales tīkls" has approved the results of ADDAX pilot project in Latvia and proceeds to mass rollout of ADDAX AMI solution.
In frames of AMI project awarded by AS "Sadales tīkls" to ADD GRUP and its Latvian partner ELKO the parties reached an agreement for a preliminary pilot deployment of an end-to-end smart metering solution covering 8 substations and 932 meters, 8 data concentrators and AMI software SIMS. The pilot objective was to analyze LV grid, network topology, specific features of transformer substations, distances as well as to prepare AS "Sadales tīkls" personnel to mass rollout and autonomous management of project business processes.
AS "Sadales tīkls" chose eight substations featuring four different environments:
- High Density Urban Area with partial coverage;
- Urban area with complete coverage
- Rural Area
- Mixed area consisting of private houses (within metropolitan area).
Within high-density area AS "Sadales tīkls" requested partial coverage where only 10% of installed meter base were replaced by ADDAX meters. Because of partial coverage, some meters were too far from the Data Concentrator. As it is generally known, PLC communications have distance limitations for signal transmission, where the maximum distance reaches not more than 250-300 meters in PRIME technology. ADD solved the issue by installing several repeaters, after which 100% meters became available. At the stage of rollout, when ADDAX meters will be provided to all the consumers, dedicated repeaters will no longer be needed.
Another issue faced in the pilot was industrial equipment emitting noise into power grid. Two powerline filters were installed to protect network from harmonics and ensure optimal PLC environment
ADDAX versatile Universal Hardware platform has USB Host interface that connects the meter to Wide Area Network. WAN connectivity was successfully tested and showed an easy switch from PLC to WAN technology and vice versa without need to replace the meter.
As a result, all ADDAX meters are registered in the system and data collection rate for 15 minutes load profiles is not less than 98% where 2% are variable due to some meters being disconnected by consumers (for instance in case of holiday houses) and AS "Sadales tīkls" proceeds with a mass roll-out that will cover installation of ADDAX meters to about 100 000 consumers in Latvia till the end of 2015.
Once again ADDAX achieves consistent system performance results demonstrated in larger scale projects deployed with other utilities. It is important to mention that the approach to versatility of smart metering solution and Universal Hardware Platform, as well as experience gained in previously delivered large projects makes deployment of new projects an elementary task.
